Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series — custom WinOLS map pack and tune file (89663-6AE91) for a New Zealand customer

A New Zealand customer sent us the read from their 79 Series LandCruiser — the 4.5-litre 1VD-FTV V8 on calibration 89663-6AE91 — and asked for two things: a custom tune for the vehicle, and the full WinOLS map pack for the calibration so they could see exactly what had been changed and work on the file themselves. The 70 Series is one of the most-requested files through our tune file service on both sides of the Tasman, and 6AE91 runs Toyota’s Denso Gen 1 engine management — a platform we’ve spent a lot of time inside — so this is one we build from our own definitions rather than from anything generic.

The map pack

Our WinOLS map pack for 6AE91 is built from our own reverse-engineering of the Gen 1 Denso firmware, not from a renamed copy of someone else’s list. It gives a tuner the full engine side of the calibration, named, scaled and axis-defined so it opens as a readable project:

  • Driver demand and the torque structure the ECU works from
  • Injection quantity, timing and the fuel quantity limiters
  • Rail pressure requests and limits
  • Boost targets, boost limiters and VNT control
  • Smoke and airflow limiters
  • EGR control and the related diagnostic thresholds
  • Torque limiters by gear and condition, plus the speed and rpm limiters

Because the definitions are ours, we can support them: if a workshop needs a map they can’t find, or wants to know what a limiter actually does in the code, we can answer from the disassembly rather than guess.

The tune file

The tune for a 79 Series is built for how these vehicles are used — towing, touring, loaded tray, and long stretches at highway speed. That means a stronger, broader torque curve rather than a headline peak number, with fuelling, boost and rail pressure lifted together so the V8 pulls cleanly from low rpm. For this file:

  • +42 kW and +285 Nm over stock — a 79 Series V8 that finally pulls like a 4.5-litre should
  • Boost at 18 psi, with the air-fuel ratio held at 18.1:1 under load — strong torque without black smoke or high exhaust temperatures
  • Peak output limited to 137 kW and 740 Nm with a hard cut above it, so the driveline stays inside what the gearbox, clutch and transfer case handle comfortably
  • EGR and DPF strategies addressed for the customer’s off-road use
  • Limiters retuned to suit the new calibration rather than simply switched off

The file was developed from the vehicle’s own read, validated against our dyno-tested 79 Series calibrations in Melbourne, and returned ready to flash with the customer’s own tool.

Map switching on the Gen 1 Denso

We also offer a multimap (map-switch) build on this platform, letting the driver change between calibrations — for example a towing map and an economy map — from the cabin. It’s custom work on the ECU code rather than a map edit, so it’s quoted per job; ask when you text.

Toyota Gen 1 Denso platforms we support

  • LandCruiser 70 Series 1VD-FTV (79, 76, 78) — 6AE91, 60P90, 6AE40 and other software variants
  • LandCruiser 200 Series 1VD-FTV — 60U85, 60K62 and others
  • Hilux and Prado 1KD-FTV and 2KD-FTV
  • Gen 2 and Gen 3 Denso (current Hilux, Fortuner, LC300) also supported through the tune file service

Workshops and tuners can text Josh directly on 0412 205 806 for custom files, DAMOS files and WinOLS map packs — you deal with the person building the file. If you prefer an automated return, upload your read at tacfiles.com. Either way, every file is developed by hand in WinOLS from your vehicle’s own binary.

All tuning and software solutions are intended for off-road, motorsport, agricultural or commercial use only. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure compliance with local regulations.
