Tuning file service FAQ
Straight answers on tools, read types, turnaround, pricing, the tacfiles.com match percentage, checksums and support — for workshops and tuners sending reads to The Automotive Clinic.
Can’t find it here? WhatsApp Josh on 0466 659 997 — you get the person who builds the file, not a ticket queue.
Questions tuners ask
Which tools and read types do you accept?
Autotuner, KESS3 and KESSv2, Flex (MagicMotorSport), Dimsport New Genius / New Trasdata / DFOX, PCMflash, MMCFlash, BitBox, bFlash, CMD and most other read/write tools. Send the read in your tool’s native format — we return the file in the same format so you can write it straight back. See the tools page for coverage by tool.
OBD read or bench read — which do you need?
Whichever your tool supports for that ECU. Most current ECUs read over OBD; some (locked Bosch MD1/MG1, some TCUs, certain Denso units) need a bench or boot read. The ECU index shows the published read method for each controller. If your tool reads it, we can build for it.
What is the "% match" on tacfiles.com?
When you upload a read, the portal compares it against our library of WinOLS projects and shows each matching project with a match percentage — 100% means we have worked on that exact software version; lower figures mean a closely related calibration. Exact matches are listed first.
What happens if there is no 100% match?
You can still order. Where the modifications can be transferred automatically you receive the ported file; where they can’t, you receive the original and modified pair to transfer yourself, or you message Josh on WhatsApp for a manual transfer — usually 10–20 minutes during file-service hours (9am–9pm Mon–Sat AEST).
How fast is turnaround?
Automated matches on tacfiles.com download immediately after payment. Hand-built files are usually back within 10–20 minutes during file-service hours (9am–9pm Mon–Sat AEST); after hours they are first in the queue the next morning. New-platform development and decompiles are quoted with a timeframe.
Do you correct checksums?
Files are supplied ready to flash. Every current flashing tool corrects the checksum when it writes, so there is no separate checksum step and nothing extra to buy.
How much does a file cost?
Stock/original files from $75 AUD and modified files from $275 AUD on tacfiles.com. Map packs, DAMOS files, multimap builds, TCU work and new-platform decompiles are quoted per job. Trade accounts get their own pricing.
Are the files generic?
No. Every file is built in WinOLS from your own read using our own map definitions, by the person you deal with, and supported afterwards. Where we hold a matching project the portal ports it to your exact software version; otherwise it is built by hand.
What is a map pack or DAMOS, and do I need one?
A map pack (or DAMOS/A2L-style definition) tells WinOLS where every map in a calibration lives and how it is scaled, so a tuner can edit the file themselves. You only need one if you are tuning the file yourself; if you want a finished file, order the file. We supply packs for Ford, Mazda, Holden Colorado, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and Toyota platforms, built from our own reverse-engineering.
Which vehicles do you cover?
Cars and utes, trucks and buses, tractors and plant, motorcycles, ATVs and marine — 427 makes and 4,800+ models are listed in the supported vehicles catalogue, compiled from the published lists of the tools we work with. Platforms we have reverse-engineered in depth are on the tuner page.
Do you do transmission (TCU) files?
Yes — Isuzu Aisin 6-speed, Ford/Mazda 6- and 10-speed, VW DSG, BMW ZF8 and others: shift points, lock-up, torque management and limits matched to the engine file. See TCU tuning.
Can you support a tuner in another country?
Yes. Files are delivered digitally, so the only thing that changes with location is the time of day you hear back. See worldwide, New Zealand, UK & Europe and USA & Canada.
What if a file does not work as expected?
WhatsApp Josh with the symptoms and a log if you have one. We support what we build — a revised file is usually back the same day. We do not hand you off to a ticket queue.
Are emissions solutions legal?
All tuning files and emissions software solutions are intended for off-road, motorsport, agricultural or commercial use only. It is the responsibility of the vehicle or equipment owner to ensure compliance with the regulations that apply where the vehicle is used.
How do I set up a trade account?
WhatsApp 0466 659 997 with your name and workshop, the tools you use and the platforms you tune. Trade customers deal with Josh directly and get their own pricing on tacfiles.com.
