Kobelco excavator software solution — 15% uprate on a Transtron ECU with DCU17HD01

A recent job for a plant customer: a Kobelco excavator needing more from its engine for the work it was being asked to do. The machine runs a Transtron engine ECU paired with a Denso DCU17HD01 dosing control unit for the SCR aftertreatment. We were commissioned to deliver a complete software solution for the machine, including a 15% power uprate, done remotely through the tune file service.

Two controllers, one solution

Modern Kobelco and Isuzu-engined plant doesn’t have one computer to tune — it has an engine ECU and a separate DCU managing the SCR system, and the two talk to each other constantly. Change one without understanding the other and you get fault codes, derates or an aftertreatment system that fights the new calibration. Our work on the Transtron platform (the same family we support on Isuzu 4JJ1/4JJ3 road vehicles) and on the Denso DCU17 series meant we could treat both as a system rather than two separate files.

Building the uprate

The engine calibration was developed from the machine’s own read in WinOLS using our in-house Transtron definitions. The 15% uprate was achieved by lifting the torque and fuelling structure in a controlled way — matched boost and rail pressure targets, smoke and airflow limiters retuned to suit, and the torque limiters set so the gains are available where an excavator actually works: under load, at working rpm, for hours at a time. We stay well inside what the engine, injectors and cooling system handle comfortably; an uprate on plant equipment has to be reliable first and strong second.

The DCU17HD01 calibration was then aligned with the engine changes so the aftertreatment and diagnostic strategies remain consistent with the new fuelling and the machine runs clean of fault codes.

Delivery and support

Both files were returned directly to the customer and flashed on site by the customer’s technician. As with all our plant work, the solution is supported: if the machine logs something unexpected after the update, we review it and revise the file. No freight, no downtime beyond the flash.

Plant and heavy equipment we support

  • Transtron and Denso engine ECUs on Isuzu-powered Kobelco, Hitachi, Sumitomo and Case machines
  • Denso DCU17 series dosing control units
  • Bosch EDC7, EDC17CV and MD1 on trucks, tractors and construction plant
  • TRW EMS 2.2 / 2.3 / S6 and Cummins CM2350

Operators, dealers and plant workshops can text Josh on 0412 205 806 to discuss a job, or upload a read at tacfiles.com for an automated return. Every file is built from your machine’s own software — nothing generic.

All tuning and software solutions are intended for off-road, motorsport, agricultural or commercial-plant use only. It is the responsibility of the equipment owner to ensure compliance with local regulations.
