Peugeot 407 v6 DPF problems
As anyone who has had major DPF issues with their vehicle can tell you, they can be a royal pain to fix. Over 50% of the DPF assessments that our experts at the automotive clinic carry out are on vehicles that have been elsewhere in an attempt to fix the vehicle.
One Peugeot that we had in recently is a perfect example of this, to give a back story:
The Peugeot had been to a local euro specialist repair centre. In an attempt to fix the multiple DPF related faults that this vehicle had, the previous repair shop had reset anything and everything in the engine ECU with their scan tool. While re-sets are necessary post repair this can cause some major issues and or damage if you don’t know what you’re doing.
These Peugeot/ Citroen vehicles use a DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) system on top of the standard DPF system, to simplify this system, it injects a chemical into the exhaust to aid regeneration. The proper name for this chemical is Eloys, generally this eolys tank is something that does not have to be filled for 50,000 – 100,000 klm, the issue that this previous repairer has caused was that they reset the vehicles additive tank level without filling the tank itself !
On Peugeot/Citroen vehicles this can cause serious damage to your DPF as the DPF will overheat when regenerating causing thermal damage to the DPF and well over $3000 aud in repairs !
Luckily for our customer we caught this issue before the car had the opportunity to attempt a regeneration, We were able to properly fill the vehicles eolys additive tank using the OEM filling tool and JLM Lubricants 3 in 1 Eloys fluid, Post filling the tank we were then able to complete all re sets correctly using the dealer scan tool and start our test drive procedure.
On our extended post repair test drive we were able to monitor the vehicle in regeneration, post filling the additive tank correctly, this allows us to confirm that this vehicles DPF system is able to correctly self clean itself and confirm that our customer will have a happy and healthy Peugeot for a long time to come!
